Hey Guys and Gals, About 3 years ago I made a course teaching people how to create software. This was the first time I publicly talked about apps as I was just getting into the arena with my first game, Kolo’s Journey. Over the next few years I sold many source codes to my games and released courses that over 5,000 people have purchased to start their game business. These customers have now done over 100,000,000 downloads on mobile devices and I decided it was due time to organize this teaching business into it’s own entity, called Game Academy. A few weeks [...]
Today we released the second release from our L-System label called The Outer Rim E.P. I’m producing as Cerebro on this one and David Jacopin as Taho. This was a fun one as it’s first battle of productions we’ve had so far. David sent me his track, Mon Bala, which I loved and we decided to have some fun and make it a Taho VS Cerebro E.P. I came back with Mon Duul and the epic space music battle to the death took effect. To prove the level of mega nerds that we are, the names were picked from rare [...]

Here’s another post from an App Elite 2 student who’s on the ball. Hitendra has over 500,000 downloads of apps and in this article discusses the best pricing strategies to make the most with apps. – Trey There are reports of supercell making $ 700k per day with their 2 free apps and we have seen the Fall of Angry birds. Also there are numerous hints in the industry suggesting us to go all freemium. All of these points are valid and there’s a lot of money to be made in good freemium apps, but I am here to talk [...]
The other morning I was driving my daughters to school and listening to the Alivin & The Chipmunks version of Party Rock. Which I might add is fascinating. It’s a big hit around the Smith house. When I got back I finished a new DJ mix of electronic music without any vocals. I’m about 45,000 words into writing a book and there is nothing more distracting than trying to tune out a human (or chipmunk) singing in the background. Shockingly, someone requested that I post some of these here, so I’ve put together a set on soundcloud of some good non-distracting mixes [...]
I’ve been wanting to have a guest post from students of mine for a while now, and we’re kicking it off with a wonderful tale showing the rise and demise of a profitable Android business. I’m a big believer in teaching what makes you successful as well as what didn’t work. Each time I’ve failed (which has been often) I’ve learned more than any book could teach. Like Larry Elison said, “I’ve had all the disadvantages required for success”. This post is from Alejandro De la Parra Solomon and it’s great… check it out – Trey The Successes [...]
Was talking to a friend yesterday about projects I’m currently working on. If you’ve followed me a while, you know I’m a bit psycho when it comes to starting new stuff. I absolutely love brainstorming up new ideas, and while not all of them pan out, it’s a blast getting it going. So my buddy asked what all I was doing and I really didn’t know, I had to write it out: The Record Label (Changed name to L-System, new release in promo now) App Elite 2 Webinar (Just finished up, went very well) Google Adwords & LinkedIn Ads (Want [...]
If you were to corner me in a restaurant and say “Dude, what is your biggest secret to building a successful business”, first I would say “You are totally freaking me out, please stop cornering me” and then I would tell you this one thing that made an ENORMOUS impact on my business, lifestyle and even my personal happiness. It’s really obvious, but 99% of new business owners don’t do it. Also, the people who do it usually scale their business to be really big. You could take two business owners with the same skill set and the one could [...]
Ok Guys, Recently I did a new seminar presentation at Chad Mureta’s App Empire event. It was a great crowd and I had a blast. I did a new presentation on “How to make video games that don’t suck”. Typically I focus on cheaper games or talk about the high end stuff, but this presentation is totally different. I talk about “medium games” that cost from $ 2,000 to $ 5,000 to make and I share exact data on my hard cost, how much I made and how I monetized the games. You’ll also see exactly where I come up [...]
I’m a total electronic music geek. Been collecting vinyl, DJing and producing music for the past 15 years and just started a new record label with my friend, David Jacopin (aka Taho). The label is called Zero Records and we just started the promotion of our first release, which is by me under the name Cerebro, with amazing remixes by Marco Bailey and DJINXX. Getting great feedback so far! Check out the promo page (with full track) here. It will be available on Beatport January 15th. Take care, Trey P.S. – Fun fact: The label is named after Project Zero, which I was [...]
In the year 2000, I got my first mobile phone that could check email. I remember getting it right before a family vacation we took to San Diego. I fell in love with the city and thought it was the absolutely coolest place ever, which it probably is. I even got kicked out of a bar on Gas Lamp called Croce’s for having a fake ID. It was a damn good fake ID too! If you would have told me I would move there in less than 10 years I wouldn’t have believed you. Heck, I went to Croce’s not [...]
Last week I did a talk at Chad Mureta’s App Empire event. I’m attempting to secure the video recording to put it up here for you guys, so look out for that soon! During the Q&A section someone asked me about launch strategy and not only was it a great question, It’s also something I haven’t touched on very much here. On this post, we’re going to dive in and check out the launch of my game Adventure Man: Now, before we get started, let’s clear the air about this game. It’s honestly not very good Luckily, the reception HAS [...]
Hey Guys, So I have a small surfboard and skateboard collection. For the record I’m REAL bad at both of them, but absolutely love doing it. Apparently I’ve talked about this enough for the App Eliters to notice. I unexpectedly received the absolute COOLEST GIFT EVER from them yesterday. Seriously, this is too awesome for words and I felt one lone MAN TEAR trying to creep out when I opened this one: The reason this is so special is EVERY SINGLE ONE of those apps are from an App Eliter last year. That is just awesome. There were some apps [...]
